Sending sms is the latest trend. People now type Hindi messages in English script. For example, if one needs to tell “Hi, how are you?” he would type, “Hi, kaise ho?” Often this technique, like in the example, may reduce the number of letters but most of the times, this technique increases the number of letter of the same message in English.

Such messages include more personal touch and often convey feelings in a better manner since for anyone, the mother tongue is most dear and sweet to listen.  However, this method is mainly in use by the young generation who speak a medley of English and Hindi and thus type also in the same fashion.

Many mobile phones are now supporting Hindi as their script. Nokia’s most of the phones in India have a language option of Hindi where the SMS as well as the menus are all in Hindi. This makes it easier for people who don’t know English to use these mobile phones.

However, as far as SMS is concerned, one needs to have a device compatible with Hindi language option to read those messages. Samsung came up with a totally new concept of Hindi dictionary in some of its phones which helped people type in Hindi script fast like English.
